The common attraction to the details in vintage denim are what initially amazed collectors. Perceptions towards denim have changed over times: people substituted their concerns with the quality and intricacy of the fabrics construction for attention to weight and thickness of the denim.

With the inevitable oxidation of indigo on the collectable vintage jeans over time, the colour deepened and vintage seekers became enamoured by the wrong colour tone of blue.

Joe McCoy was focused on deciphering a perfect balance between actual reality of vintage denim and exaggerated reproductions.

Through a combination of trial and error, Joe McCoy was able to develop a fabric that is the ideal balance between new and old. Due to the unsanforized nature of the denim, the deep loom state denim will achieve its ideal density after a water soak will yield shrinkage of the fabric. This epitome of a perfect pair of jeans is what they would refer to as The Real McCoy’s standard.

The popular straight leg 14oz 906 is slightly re-modelled to give a medium to low rise. Inspired by 1960s Ivy League college students, it has the same great fit as previous models.

Joe McCoy

When unraveling the cultural history woven together on the American continent, the singular contribution of one legendary figure comes quickly to mind, Joseph Getting McCoy.

As the son of immigrants, Joe McCoy combined the traditions of his parents with ideas born of the the new world. he rode the mid-nineteenth century frontier wave eastward to frame with his innovate and tough brand of textiles.

The arrival of work pants reinforced with copper rivets heralded the dawn of the new era. In the early twentieth century, motorisation, prosperity and strong demand for durable goods and luxuries rapidly spread across the country. Labourers wanted tough and affordable workwear. Gatsbyian playboys wanted suits and coats of the finest materials. Not many years later this deepening polarity gave way to a bubble-bursting depression and world-changing war, followed by a radical shift in clothing needs.

The garment industry was revolutionised as government contracts poured in for innovative and functional clothing. When the dust settled, American garments were recognised round the world for their function and originality.

Taking it’s cues from each changing era of the American experience in Sportswear, Denim and Workwear, Joe McCoy continues to manufacture unchanging products designed to last generations.
